Hooray for fiestas!

The time for enjoyment is here! Dancing, singing, preparing food for your family and friends, you name it. Under normal circumstances, of course, I'd have been ecstatic around this time of the year. Too bad the pandemic is still ongoing. And getting worse, at that!

Fiestas are a time for leaving your worries away and instead, focus on the many other bizarre phenomena in life — praise for the gods, the love for family, the re-enactment of history; but most of all, it shows the deep cultural roots of the people. Then, you could imagine the disappointment of not being able to engage in these events! A challenge for the masses — how would we celebrate without having the chance to step outside? To not be able to interact with the very people we give our love to? It is most definitely a big step behind to those who wish to experience the joy of learning the customs and traditions that made us Filipinos who we are today.

However, I believe that this is merely a small setback. Although we have other ways of celebration, albeit new and somewhat altered, this is still a way to show affection for everyone — the sick, the healthy, the old and young, and all members of our community.

  1. Hello, I really like this blog. I agree that all this, the pandemic, is only a mere hindrance to us. There are safer alternatives for celebrating our beloved holiday. Celebrating safely and responsibly is a must. Anyways, this is a very well-written and heart-warming blog, keep it up!
